The strategy of the Club is to grow from below and we welcome children from the age of 5 to come and have a go at football in fun learning sessions on Saturday mornings.
The coaching is undertaken by the Clubs Head Coach Paul Baigent who has over thirty years’ experience of coaching of all age groups assisted by Rob Sawyer who is also a coach of many years standing. Between them and with the help of some of the willing parents a series of coaching sessions are held to help the young children develop and learn to love the game.
The ethos of the coaching is based on our philosophy that football is a skilled passing team game and we try and develop skills and a good style of football from an early age which children and of course the teams can then take with them as they mature into the older age groups. What the children learn at this young age will help them significantly as they develop their football careers.
There is a gradual development of the sessions as the children mature into the under 7’s age group and by the end of that season they will start to take part in some friendly fixtures and local tournaments and hopefully a team or two can evolve into a successful under 8’s team the following season. Since the club launched the Nipper programme 7 teams have graduated into league football and we hope to develop many more.
If you would like your child to try out our football sessions then please come to Leek Wootton Sports ground on Saturday mornings at 9:30 or contact Head Coach Paul Baigent for further details.
